About Me

I'm Jose — a Senior Quality Assurance Engineer with 21+ years of experience testing software the way it actually gets used: under pressure, at scale, and increasingly, powered by AI.

My background spans the full arc of quality engineering — Senior QA Engineer, Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET), and interim QA Manager — across companies ranging from Spotify to healthcare startups. Over two decades I've built and rebuilt test automation suites in Playwright, Cypress, and Selenium; scripted APIs in Node.js to keep business-critical workflows honest; and led quality initiatives that get whole teams — not just QA — thinking about testability.

These days, most of my curiosity is pointed at a newer problem: how do you test something that doesn't give the same answer twice? I work hands-on with LLM validation across Microsoft Azure AI Foundry and locally-hosted models via Ollama, and I write about what I find here — self-healing Playwright tests powered by Gemini, local LLM setups on a Mac Mini, using mock servers to keep API tests fast and reliable. I'd rather run the experiment myself and tell you honestly what worked (and what didn't) than repeat a tutorial.

Outside of testing, I'm based in Hutto, TX (just north of Austin), and when I'm not debugging a flaky locator I'm usually tinkering with something else entirely — customizing mechanical keyboards, cycling, bird watching or reading up on mental models. I think that same pattern-seeking curiosity is what makes for a good QA engineer: noticing the thing that doesn't quite fit.
